Meet Samantha

"I am writing to recommend Samantha for consideration to receive an adaptive Bike. I have known Samantha for five years, and in this time she has been an active member in the Caring for Kids Program here at Shirley Ryan Abilitylab (formally known as the Rehabilitation Institute of Chicago). Caring for Kids is a dynamic program for any youth age 7 to 17 has a physical disability. The Caring for Kids program offers year round adaptive sports, recreation, special events and social activities. The programs are designed to foster a positive quality of life for participants they’re promoting physical fitness, independence, socialization, activity, and adaptive programming resources.

Samantha has been expressing interest in receiving an adaptive bike. Based on Samantha‘s diagnosis it is imperative to keep her active in order to continue to build strength, increase mobility and general health. An adaptive bike would allow Samantha to have an extension of the therapy that she receives and be able to engage in a recreational activity with her family and friends without limitations. Samantha has also received the Caring for Kids All Star of the Year Award back in 2015. This award was given to Samantha due to her incredible ability to lead and make others feel welcome in the program regardless of their ability level."
